Regional Coalitions

What is the purpose of establishing a regional coalition?
To identify local cancer priorities
To provide support to local level partners as they work on Kansas’ cancer priorities
To leverage the opportunity for policy change at local level
To assure the Kansas cancer plan is informed by local communities
To increase stakeholder participation in KCP
To be able to implement the cancer plan at the community level and assure evidence-based interventions/effective practices are being used
To have better representation from the entire state on the KCP

South Central Kansas – Wichita Area​

• Formed in October 2013
• Meets bi-monthly by Zoom
• Averages 10 in attendance
• Focus on survivorship resources
• Created an on-line resource guide for survivors and families
• Hosted an online HPV forum
• Hosted an online vaping forum
• Picked up cigarette butts at the local park to show the impact/need for tobacco free parks
• Hosted a free skin/prostate cancer screening
• Hosted the Cancer Moonshot – Wichita listening tour

South East Kansas – Pittsburg Area

• Formed in September 2014
• Meets bi-monthly by Zoom
• Averages 6 in attendance
• Focus on increase in HPV vaccine rates for the region
• Hosted “Someone You Love” HPV documentary for the Pittsburg community in April 2016
• Hosted an in-person HPV presentation for healthcare providers
• Hosted online vaping forum
• Participates annually in the Pittsburg State University Back to School Fair to provide cancer prevention information

North Central Kansas – Salina Area​​​​

• Formed in July 2016
• Meets bi-monthly by Zoom
• Averages 10 in attendance
• Hosts the Annual Shine A Light on Lung Cancer Awareness Week
• Promotes colorectal cancer screening with free kits offered in the community in March
• Picked up cigarette butts at the local park to show the impact/need for tobacco free parks
• Helped pass Tobacco Free Parks in Salina
